Michael Caruso - A Brief Biography

Co-founder and CTO of Bear and Bee Creations, Michael is a tech-head with over 16 years experience as a software developer and has been working behind a camera for over 20 years. While being technically savvy, he also has a creative side which is a perfect combination of skills in web development and digital photography.

As a software developer, Michael has worked in a number of industries with a large variety of technologies. He has also developed a number of web sites, from basic content to Flash-based, interactive sites. Projects have included sites for two martial arts schools, hair salons, and a number of intranet web portals for previous employers.

On the creative side, Michael has been interested in art since early childhood. He began drawing at an early age and took up photography in High School. Serving as staff photographer on college newspapers, he gained experience with the camera and in the darkroom, but his real interest lay in capturing nature through the lens. His photographic work centered in New Jersey where he grew up, then spread through New England and south to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Since moving to Colorado 12 years ago, he has become an avid photographer of the Rocky Mountains and Southwest. Recently he has been exploring abroad with trips to Mexico and Costa Rica.

For the last eight years, Michael has been spending much of his free time studying martial arts. As a student of Tae Kwon Do, Michael earned special recognition for his efforts in and out of class by being asked to join the "Black Belt Club" after only a few months of training, then joining the Special Team Of Role Models (STORM) program, in which he served as a part-time instructor at the school. In 2005, he received his 1st Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He continued that training for another two years, then transitioned to Muay Thai Kickboxing in the summer of 2007. For the last two years he has been a regular in the dojang, often assisting the instructor or running classes himself.

On a personal note, it has been an honor working on this project for a group of veterans who have given so much for their country and continue to serve the nation and each other.
